About Praja

Over the last 25 years, Praja Foundation has been working towards enabling accountable governance.  In the past we have partnered with the Mumbai Corporation to come up with its first Citizen Charter to revamp their Citizens’ Complaint Grievances Mechanism (GRM). The complaint number 1916 is still functional with some enhancements.

 

Praja conducted an Urban Governance Reforms Study to map the implementation status of 74th Constitution Amendment Act. The first of its kind study, led to developing an ‘Urban Governance Index’ (UGI) with the larger goal of forging a network of key influencers, thought leaders and local government bodies to democratize city governments and improve delivery of services. The data and information from the UGI are regularly used by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and NITI Aayog.

 

Currently, Praja has multiple partnerships with state governments for initiatives such as capacity building of elected representatives, advisory support on enhancing municipal finances, etc. We have worked with the Urban Development Department, Jammu & Kashmir to give advisory support on policies and programs such as Aspirational Town Planning Program, implementation of Property Tax, etc.

 

Praja has also partnered with the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) on multiple projects and programs including a pan India study on Fiscal Empowerment of City Governments which covers 44 cities across 28 states and 2 UTs and Prajatantra, a National Youth Festival of Democracy where more than 1000 youth from across the country come together and function as a model city government, deliberating on policies and vision for the city.

 

The Role

The Social Media and Branding Manager will be responsible for developing and executing social media strategies to promote Praja’s brand image across various platforms ensuring consistent brand messaging across all digital touchpoints to maximize brand awareness and stakeholder engagement.  

 

Main Responsibilities

1. Branding and Social Media

  • Position Praja Foundation as a thought leader in Urban Governance through a consistent brand voice, visual identity, and messaging through integrated campaigns across all digital platforms.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with organisational goals.
  • Craft impactful storytelling strategies that strengthen brand credibility among policymakers, civic leaders, and urban governance stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement brand guidelines for digital communication, ensuring alignment with Praja’s mission and advocacy goals.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, ensuring consistent and engaging content.
  • Stay updated on social media trends, platform algorithms, and industry best practices to optimise reach and engagement.

 

2. Content Creation and Distribution

  • Lead the content calendar planning for multi-platform distribution, ensuring a mix of long-form, short-form, and visual content.
  • Create and oversee the production of engaging posts, infographics, reels, carousels, blogs, and videos that simplify complex urban governance issues.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to repurpose research findings into snackable, shareable, and action-oriented content.
  • Optimize content for SEO and platform-specific engagement metrics.

 

3. Community Engagement and Influencer Collaboration

  • Identify and collaborate with relevant influencers, thought leaders, and industry experts to amplify key messages.
  • Organise Twitter Spaces, LinkedIn Live discussions, and Instagram Q&As to foster digital dialogue.

 

Qualification, Experience and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism.
  • Proven working experience (5-6 years) in communication, media, and/or marketing. Previous work in the development sector (public policy) would be an added advantage.
  • Brand Management - Understanding of brand management and ability to maintain a consistent brand voice.
  • Social Media Management – Hands-on experience in managing social media accounts, engagement tactics, and digital advocacy.
  • Content Strategy & Digital Storytelling – Strong ability to create compelling narratives using text, images, and video.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful communication strategies that drive impact and engagement.
  • Strategic thinker with a data-driven approach to decision making and problem solving.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities at once; ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to nurture and strengthen relationships at all levels.
  • Maintain a culture of openness and collaboration.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and quality.
  • Passion and interest in social change work.
