About Praja

Over the last 25 years, Praja Foundation has been working towards enabling accountable governance.  In the past we have partnered with the Mumbai Corporation to come up with its first Citizen Charter to revamp their Citizens’ Complaint Grievances Mechanism (GRM). The complaint number 1916 is still functional with some enhancements.

Praja conducted an Urban Governance Reforms Study to map the implementation status of 74th Constitution Amendment Act. The first of its kind study, led to developing an ‘Urban Governance Index’ (UGI) with the larger goal of forging a network of key influencers, thought leaders and local government bodies to democratize city governments and improve delivery of services. The data and information from the UGI are regularly used by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and NITI Aayog.

Currently, Praja has multiple partnerships with state governments for initiatives such as capacity building of elected representatives, advisory support on enhancing municipal finances, etc. We have worked with the Urban Development Department, Jammu & Kashmir to give advisory support on policies and programs such as Aspirational Town Planning Program, implementation of Property Tax, etc.

Praja has also partnered with the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) on multiple projects and programs including a pan India study on Fiscal Empowerment of City Governments which covers 44 cities across 28 states and 2 UTs and Prajatantra, a National Youth Festival of Democracy where more than 1000 youth from across the country come together and function as a model city government, deliberating on policies and vision for the city.

 

The Role

The Communications Officer will support Praja Foundation’s program communication, donor engagement and monitoring & evaluation (M&E) efforts by creating compelling proposals, managing funder requirements and ensuring data-driven reporting. The role will focus on effectively communicating Praja’s urban governance reform work to donors, partners, and the public.

 

Main Responsibilities

1.Program Communication & Content Development

  • Create engaging social media content, infographics, and website updates to amplify program reach.
  • Support the development of communication materials for press release, events, webinars, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Work with Manager, Strategic Communication on content strategy and posts for program communication.

 

2.Stakeholder & Media Coordination

  • Support engagement with funding agencies, policymakers, journalists, and civic networks.
  • Assist in drafting press releases, articles, and outreach materials for media and stakeholders.

 

3.Donor Communication & Engagement

  • Assist in developing donor communication strategies to strengthen relationships with funders, CSR partners, and philanthropic organisations.
  • Draft and design donor reports, proposals, and presentations showcasing Praja’s impact.
  • Maintain donor records and assist in managing grant reporting timelines and deliverables

 

4.Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Support

  • Data collection, documentation, and reporting of program outcomes and impact.
  • Develop M&E reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

 

Qualification, Experience and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in communications, donor relations and content writing in a non-profit or public policy sector.
  • Writing & Communication – Strong writing, storytelling, and report development skills.
  • Content Creation & Social Media – Experience with creating impactful social media content, newsletters, and presentations.
  • Data Presentation & Reporting – Ability to simplify complex data into accessible reports and infographics.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Strong interpersonal skills for coordinating with donors, media, and partners.
  • Tools & PlatformsProficiency in Canva, MS Office, Google Analytics, email marketing tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and quality.
  • Passion and interest in social change work.
