Cybercrime cases in Mumbai saw a 243% jump, from 1,375 in 2018 to 4,723 in 2022. Worryingly, the detection rate last year was 8% despite five dedicated cyber police stations functioning in the city. Researchers at the NGO Praja Foundation, which released the report, said there is an urgent need for capacity building of police officials on technical skills to investigate cybercrime cases speedily.
